New Prayer App Launches on Ash Wednesday to Help Christians Stay Connected to God Between Sundays

ThyWord is a voice first prayer companion that listens to spoken prayers and responds with Scripture.

Most Christians know the feeling. You leave church on Sunday feeling spiritually grounded, connected, alive. By Monday afternoon, the noise of daily life has already pushed that feeling aside. By Wednesday, the connection feels distant. By Friday, it is gone. Then Sunday comes again and the cycle repeats.

Ajith Joseph calls it the "6 days between Sundays" problem. And he believes he has built something to help.

ThyWord is a prayer companion app launching today, on Ash Wednesday, that listens when you pray out loud and responds with the Bible passage that speaks to what you are going through. It is not a chatbot. It is not a devotional. It is a simple, quiet companion for the moments when you want to talk to God but do not know where to start.

"My grandmother prayed every day of her life," Joseph said. "She used to tell our family that at least one person should spend time in God's presence every single day. That stayed with me across every move, every career change, every season of life. But I could never figure out how to live up to it. Not consistently. Not with four kids and a demanding career. ThyWord is my answer to that."

The idea came to Joseph at 3 AM on a night he could not sleep. His wife Nisha, a nurse, and their four young children were asleep. He felt grateful for his life, but also felt something was missing. For years, his spiritual life had been limited to Sundays. One hour at church. Then six days of silence.

"I knew I was not alone in feeling that way," he said. "I think most Christians experience this. We go to church, we feel connected, and then Monday morning comes and we are right back in the noise of everyday life."

What confirmed that this was more than just an idea was a series of moments that Joseph says were impossible to ignore.

His Co-founder Bijees had spent years building technology for churches. He had created ChapelDesk, a platform that helps churches of any denomination build their online presence and stay connected with their congregations. When Joseph shared his vision for ThyWord, the two realized they had been on parallel paths toward the same calling without knowing it.

Then they discovered something that stopped them both. A passage from the book of Isaiah that Joseph had kept framed on his wall for years was the same verse Bijees had been carrying in his wallet. Neither of them had ever mentioned it to the other. It was the same Scripture, carried by two men who would end up building a prayer app together.

"You do not plan something like that," Joseph said. "That is not a coincidence. That is God telling you to pay attention."

And then came the teacher. Bijees was at a parent conference at his child's school when he ended up in a long conversation with a teacher named Theresa. She had just lost her mother and was going through one of the most difficult seasons of her life. When Bijees told her what ThyWord does, she looked at him and said, "I wish I had this right now."

"That was the moment," Joseph said. "When someone who is hurting tells you they need what you are building, you do not walk away from that. You run toward it."

ThyWord launches today on the App Store and Google Play. It is free to download. Joseph and Bijees are partnering with churches across denominations to make it available to congregations during Lent and beyond.

"We are not trying to replace church," Joseph said. "We are trying to fill the six days between Sundays. If ThyWord can help even one person feel closer to God on a Tuesday afternoon, we have done what we set out to do."
